Birthdays are meant to be celebrated!

My dad loved celebrating his birthday and he also loved having a birthday cake. It always brought a smile to his face. So in memory of my dad, I am starting a new tradition, as a way to celebrate his birthday every year. And I'm inviting others to join in sharing the love (and cake!) too. I hope you will consider donating a Birthday Cake Kit in memory of your loved ones too.

I believe every birthday is a gift and everybody should get the chance to feel celebrated! But not everyone has the financial resources to buy their kids, parents and even themselves a birthday cake. Here's a fun idea to spread more love and help others in your community. Make Birthday Cake Kit to donate to your local food pantry, homeless shelter, foster families, nursing homes, veterans, etc. (You can call any of them ahead of time to ask if they are in need.) It is also a fun project you can do with your kids, friends, family, church or community group. They are very simple to put together and can make a big difference to the person receiving it. We can all do very simple things to help others. (It's a great way to teach kids about compassion and helping others feel seen.)

"Not all of us can do great things. But we can all do small things with great LOVE." Mother Teresa

You may want to consider doing something like this annually to honor a loved one who has passed. Or during your own birthday month, start a new favorite tradition and instead of presents, ask family and friends to provide cake box supplies in lieu of a gift. You can even host a Birthday Cake Kit making party.

(Make sure you are also making your own loved ones feel loved, remembered and celebrated because it's easy to start taking those closest to us for granted.)

For anyone who donates a Birthday Cake Kit to someone in need in your community who may not otherwise have a celebration on their special day, I will gift a free copy of my Eat the CAKE e-book/course or a personalized signed copy of any of my other books as a thank you for helping others feel loved, seen and celebrated. Just send me an email to [email protected]

What do you need to make a Birthday Cake Kit to donate?

Here's what to put inside a Birthday Cake Kit.

-9x3 disposable aluminum foil pan. (If you get the ones with lids, you can package it up neatly.)

-a box of cake mix, any flavor you like

-1 can of frosting

-birthday candles

-1 can of sprite or other lemon lime soda in case the recipient doesn't have eggs or oil
(Not everyone has eggs and/or oil on hand. Did you know you can make a delicious cake out of nothing but a box of cake mix and a can of lemon lime soda?! So add a can of soda and a little note giving instructions on how to make a cake with it.)

Additional ideas: A short handwritten note or card, birthday tablecloth, birthday plates, napkins, sprinkles, decorations, small party favors, etc. You can get many of these from a dollar store.

Just place all the items you wish to include in your Birthday Cake Kit inside the disposable 9x13 foil cake pan. If you have purchased one with a lid, attach the lid to the top. You can even add some ribbon. If you are adding a can of soda, put a little note explaining that you can make a cake without eggs, oil and water simply by combining the cake mix with the can of soda and baking according to the box directions.

Then make a fun label to stick on the top of the cake pan, to decorate the kit and remind everyone to Celebrate With CAKE!

I have a PDF you can print off with the Celebrate with CAKE Sticker and a note to include with your soda can.
